What is a Duress Code? (And When to Use It)

A Duress Code is a secondary PIN that opens a convincing decoy vault while silently destroying your real vault's data. Warning: Use only in real emergencies, as this action is permanent and irreversible.

How It Works

When you are forced to unlock your device under coercion, entering your Duress Code instead of your main PIN provides plausible deniability and protects your true data.

  1. You Enter the Duress Code: Instead of your primary PIN, you enter the special Duress PIN you configured.
  2. A Decoy Vault Opens: The app appears to unlock normally, revealing a pre-populated, innocent-looking decoy vault.
  3. Real Vault is Silently Wiped: In the background, the encryption keys for your real vault are securely destroyed, and the underlying files are overwritten, making them permanently unrecoverable.

🚨 Permanent Data Destruction

Using the Duress Code is a one-way action. There is no way to recover your real vault's data after the Duress Code is entered. This is by design to ensure maximum security under threat.

Setting Up Your Duress Code

To set up your Duress Code, you must first have a main PIN configured for your vault.

  1. Navigate to Settings.
  2. Tap on Duress Protection.
  3. Follow the prompts to enable the feature and set a Duress PIN that is different from your main PIN.
