Core Features
Creating and Formatting Secure Notes
Tap the floating + button on the Vault tab and choose New Note. The title sits at the top of the document, the formatting toolbar runs across the middle, and a word count lives in the bottom status bar. Tap X to close, the checkmark to save manually.
Creating a New Note
- On the Vault tab, tap the floating + button (bottom-right).
- Choose New Note.
- A blank editor opens, ready for you to type.
Title and Body
The title is a large editable field at the very top of the document — just tap it and type. It saves automatically with the rest of the note. The title you type here is what appears in the vault list.
The note body sits below the formatting toolbar. Auto-save runs every 2 seconds after you stop typing, so you almost never need to tap save manually. The checkmark in the top-right turns into a filled circle when there's nothing left to save.
Formatting
The toolbar contains, in order:
- Text style menu (Aa) — Normal / Title / Heading.
- Bold / Italic / Underline / Strikethrough.
- Bulleted list / Numbered list / Checkbox. Tap a checkbox in a saved note to toggle it.
- Alignment — Left / Center / Right / Justified.
- Color picker — change text color of the current selection.
- Microphone (right rail) — starts inline on-device dictation at the cursor. Tap once to start, tap again to stop.
- Preferences (right rail, slider icon) — opens editor preferences.
Editor Preferences
Tap the slider icon on the right side of the formatting toolbar to open preferences:
- Font — Sans Serif, Serif, or Monospaced.
- Size — slider from 12pt to 24pt.
- Line height — slider from 1.0× to 2.0×.
- Theme — Light, Dark, or Sepia (cream background, dark sepia foreground — easier on the eyes for long writing sessions).
- Smart punctuation — converts straight quotes to curly quotes, double-hyphens to em-dashes, and pairs parentheses as you type.
- Focus mode — hides the formatting toolbar and bottom status bar so only the title and body are visible. Distraction-free writing.
Preferences apply globally to the editor and persist across launches. Existing styled text keeps its own formatting; the chosen font and theme affect new typing going forward.
Saving and Closing
- X (top-left) closes the editor. A final save is triggered automatically before the editor disappears.
- Checkmark (top-right) saves immediately. It's outlined while there are pending changes; when everything is saved, it shows as a filled circle.
Stats
The bottom-left status bar shows live word and character counts as you type. Hidden in Focus mode.
Security Note
Everything you type lives only in secure memory while the editor is open. On save, the entire document is encrypted with your device's Secure Enclave-anchored keys before being written to disk. Auto-save respects this — there's no plaintext on disk at any point.
