Setting Up Your Dead Man's Switch

The Dead Man's Switch is a fail-safe that protects your data if you are unable to access your device for an extended period. If you don't 'check in' within your chosen timeframe, the vault is automatically and permanently destroyed.

What is a Dead Man's Switch?

Inspired by systems used in high-risk professions, this feature is designed to protect your data in the event you are captured, incapacitated, or otherwise prevented from accessing your device.

It works on a simple principle: "If I don't check in, assume I'm compromised and destroy everything."

How to Set Up the Dead Man's Switch

  1. Navigate to Settings > Dead Man's Switch.
  2. Choose a Time Limit: Select how long the system should wait before triggering. Options range from 24 hours to 30 days. This is the maximum time that can pass without you checking in.
  3. Tap "Enable Dead Man's Switch".

The timer starts immediately.

How to Perform a "Check-in"

Checking in resets the countdown timer. You must do this before your chosen time limit expires.

  1. Go to Settings > Dead Man's Switch.
  2. Tap the "Perform Check-in" button.
  3. You will be required to authenticate with your main PIN or biometrics to prove your identity.

Upon successful authentication, the timer resets to its full duration.

🚨 CRITICAL WARNING: This is a Destructive Feature

If the timer expires, your vault and all its contents will be permanently and irreversibly wiped using our secure deletion protocol. This action is final. Choose a time limit that you are confident you can meet.

Use Cases

  • Journalists or Activists: Protects sources and sensitive data if captured or detained.
  • High-Risk Travel: Ensures data is wiped if a device is lost or confiscated in a hostile environment.
  • Personal Safety: Provides a final layer of data security in worst-case personal scenarios.
