Getting Started
Your First 5 Minutes with UltraLocked
Welcome to UltraLocked! This guide will walk you through setting your security level, understanding the main vault screen, and protecting your first file using the Secure Camera.
Step 1: Set Your Initial Security Level
After the initial welcome screens, you'll be asked to choose a security level. This is the most important step in securing your vault.
- Standard Security: Uses your device's biometrics (Face ID/Touch ID) for quick and secure access. This is recommended for most users.
- Enhanced Security: Adds a PIN as a backup layer. You will need to create a secure PIN if you choose this option.
You can always change this later in Settings > Security Level.
Step 2: Meet Your Vault
Once your security is set up, you'll see your main vault. It will be empty at first. Here are the key controls:
- Add Button (+): Use this to either open the Secure Camera or create a new Secure Note.
- View Toggle (Grid/List Icon): Switch between a grid of thumbnails or a detailed list view for your files.
- Settings Gear (Gear Icon): Access all application settings, including security, storage, and emergency protocols.
Step 3: Add Your First File with the Secure Camera
The easiest way to secure a file is with the built-in Secure Camera.
- From the main vault screen, tap the (+) Add button.
- Select Secure Camera.
- Grant camera permissions if requested.
- Take a photo.
The photo you just took is immediately encrypted with hardware keys and saved directly into your vault. It is never saved to your regular Photos app, ensuring complete privacy from the moment of capture.
Step 4: Understanding Self-Destruct Timers
Notice the countdown timer on your new file. Every item in UltraLocked has a self-destruct timer (TTL).
- Default Timer: By default, files are set to self-destruct after a set period (e.g., 24 hours).
- Permanent Deletion: When the timer runs out, the file and its encryption key are securely overwritten and permanently destroyed.
- Change Anytime: You can tap the three-dots menu on any file to change its self-destruct timer to be longer or shorter.
This feature ensures that your sensitive data doesn't remain on your device indefinitely, protecting you even if you forget to delete it yourself.
